PDVSA inaugurates Rig School in the West

Maracaibo.- On Thursday,  Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA) opened Hugo Chávez PDV-TE-003 Rig School in the state of Zulia, western Venezuela, for the optimal training of the workforce at the forefront of industry core processes, through the use of high technology. This further strengthens the Full Oil Sovereignty of the Nation.

This is the third PDVSA drilling rig simulator for technical training. It will enhance worker knowledge on drilling and maintenance of producing wells through real world simulations, thus reducing downtime during construction, repair, workover, conditioning, and servicing of wells.

The president of PDVSA, Eulogio Del Pino, toured the facility together with the workers of the Western Production Executive Office and members of PDVSA Board of Directors. The Rig School will certify 1,036 workers in the coming months.

"We can be proud of this third Rig School that will help with the training of all workers, their children and all those who will work in this great company. It is an example that, despite any difficulty that they impose on us, we can move forward. Every time we confront an adverse situation we are being patriotic”, said Del Pino.

He also said that the constituent process is "a unique opportunity to foster dialogue in response to the unconventional war that they have imposed on us. It is important that we are all highly aware of the historical moment we are living”.

The Rig School will operate in the PDV TE-003 location, a 60 x 70 square meters area in El Menito, Lagunillas municipality, Zulia state. This well was drilled in 2016 by PDV-75 drill to a depth of 2,019 feet.

PDV-TE-003 was made in China and it has a power of 180 HP, fully automated. It has one the most advanced control system in the world, comprised of circulation, lifting, rotation, power, pumps, draw works and transformer systems.

The inauguration of this new facility is highly strategic for the Western region’s oil industry and is part of the Strategic Socialist Plan (PES) of PDVSA 2016-2026. The other two PDVSA Rig Schools are located in Morichal, Monagas state, and San Tomé, Anzoátegui state.
